Deborah Francois is currently the Vice President after having served the first semester as the Senate Chair. In these two roles, she learned how to both lead and work with others to rectify the deficiencies of Hunter. As President, she plans to continue fighting tuition hikes, lobby the administration to end the Oasis referral service for Financial Aid, create an advising program to assist transfer and international students, host immigration clinics to assist students in obtaining citizenship, and further improve the relationship between USG and clubs so that both can work effectively together to build a sense of Hunter Community.

Lusheena Warner, the current Student Welfare/Academic Affairs Commissioner, understands the needs of students. She has improved the USG Tutoring Program, increasing availability and flexibility. Also, she has worked alongside other USG members to participate in the GER revision process. In addition, she has spearheaded events such as the Thanksgiving Dinner, AIDS Awareness Week, Ode to Spoken Word, etc. If elected, Warner will implement a USG peer-to-peer advising program as a way to increase advising opportunities. In addition, she will continue to improve the Hunter community by providing students with more outlets to express themselves and meet each other.

Besufekad Alemu is a junior majoring in Economics. He is currently working in as Finance Assistant in the Undergraduate Student Government. Although currently not on any slate, he strongly believes in the efficient usage of student activity fees that are paid by Hunter students. Therefore, increased student participation in campus life is one of the reasons he is running independent. If elected, he hopes to work on improving the diversity of the activities that Hunter has to offer and work on making Hunter an enjoyable place for all those who have invested in it.

Leo Delgado is an Environmental Studies major. He has gained valuable experience about the school’s bureaucracy and USG processes from being a sophomore senator, and from working as a Peer Advisor at the Student Center. He will bring to the External Affairs position the advocacy and public relations skills he developed as an intern with NYPIRG. As a commissioner, he will organize events like Lobby Day where students will go to Albany to advocate for the continuous support of CUNY and Hunter. He will also establish open periodical meetings to ensure the Student Government is addressing the students’ needs.

Candace Brereton is running for Student Welfare Commissioner with Hunter United. She has served on the e-board of various student organizations. Candace is currently in her junior year and has been apart of different clubs since her first year. If elected some of her plans include assisting students with school related issues, maintaining communication with campus organizations, and hosting events that meet the needs of the student body. Candace has seen the inner workings of Hunter College from various perspectives, and plans to use these various points of view in order to serve the student body efficiently.

Currently, Brookdale Commissioner and in his Junior year, Chris hopes to continue and improve upon all thatÕs been done this year. So far heÕs significantly improved the quality of the Gameroom, started a building wide newsletter, and set a high standard for Brookdale events. Next year, Chris hopes to continue to bring about an effective Brookdale Council, work to improve Athletics, and set up a ŅBrookdale P2P NetworkÓ. In addition, Chris hopes to direct the Brookdale Council to tackle large issues touched upon this year such as facilities and cafeteria services and invites all residents to attend Brookdale Council Meetings!

David is a Political Science major who has been involved in student government for years, including being president of his high school. He is passionate about social issues, such as Darfur. He ran a fundraiser for Darfur featuring former democratic mayoral candidate Ruth Messinger, which raised thousands of dollars. David is now a freshman senator of USG., working on the speaker series and other events. He has arranged for several speakers to speak at Hunter, the last being a writer from The Colbert Report. USG. is always David’s number one priority and he wishes to continue serving the
student body.

Robby Setton is in his third year at Hunter College and intends to enter a career in medicine. Though he is a pre-medical student, he is a religion major and is very passionate about his studies. He served in Undergraduate Student Government as a Junior Senator before he was elected as Senate Chair. He hopes to serve as the Evening Affairs Commissioner in the upcoming year. The main reason he wants to serve under Hunter United is because he truly believes that his energy, innovation, and devotion can make a real impact on the lives of Hunter students.

Nane is currently President of the Armenian Club and Treasurer of The Helping Hand of Hunter College. Nane looks forward to helping clubs become more efficient and open to the Hunter community and wants to improve dining services and enhance security around the school. Jared is a freshman double-majoring in political science and anthropology. Currently a Senator serving on the Welfare Committee, he has addressed the needs of the diverse student population. Advocacy and a commitment to social action are his priorities. Now running for the College Association, he hopes to use his skills to work for the students and clubs of Hunter, and provide the students with a wide range of activities that they actually want to attend. He will serve the student body and make sure that the clubs and organizations are given the funding they need to make the Hunter experience enjoyable.

He lived in Arizona until he was 12 years old, and currently resides at the Brookdale dormitories. As a member of the College Association, Christian is excited to protect the interests of the student body. Using his position in Student Government, Christian looks forward to bringing more attention to the concerns of the Hunter community to USG, through increased interaction between the student body and the Student Government. He intends to bring more entertaining events to help make Hunter a tighter-knit, enjoyable community.

Danny enjoys watching silent movies, bridging the digital divide, and reading seven books at once and occasionally finishing one of them. Danny is a proud vegan.

Patrick is a junior at Hunter, where he majors in History and Literature. He is running for the Auxiliary Enterprise Board because he enjoys auxiliaries just as much as he enjoys enterprises, which he feels a relatively large amount of affection for. But his love for the previous words and all that they encompass is dwarfed by his love for boards. He believes that they are not only useful (try and make a table without a board of some sort), but they offer a world of friendships to be made (he has trouble making friends outside of being on boards).

Hailing from Los Angeles, Brian brings a certain west coast swagger, which undoubtedly gives him confidence to standout and not shy away from strangers. Brian is known to sincerely get along with whomever he meets. He feels he would be a strong asset to the student government at Hunter. Brian is eagerly running for a position on the Auxiliary Enterprise Board, to do what needs to be done in order for students to be excited about events at Hunter.

David Hunter Walsh (whose middle name actually is Hunter) is a full-time student, despite being a New Jerseyan, and will be entering his sophomore year with a double major in Political Science and Economics. He served four years in the Marine Corps, during which he graduated at the top of his class in Corporals’ Leadership Course and was elected President of the Single Marine and Sailor Program of Hawaii. He currently helps run a business consulting firm and serves on the Hunter College Model UN Team. He brings a very ambitious vision towards a position on the Auxiliary Enterprise Board.

Jacquelyn is pleased to be a freshman at Hunter. GO Hawks! She is a Psych major with a Spanish minor, pursuing a career in Psychology. Jackie is currently a member of the Brookdale Game Room staff where she is a member of the treasury committee and in charge of the library. Being involved at Brookdale has exposed her to many issues students face that she would like to help change. Jackie feels that she will make a great FSDC member because she is always one to be fair, listens to all sides of a situation, and makes unbiased opinions.

Before arriving at Hunter, Jean spent time in Manhattan and Los Angeles. As soon as she arrived at Hunter, she knew it was time to get serious about schoolwork again. In fact, she liked Hunter so much, she decided to take classes in everything that sounded interesting, from Media 180 to Chemistry. She is now a junior and the secretary of the Global Medical Brigades. This summer, she is visiting Honduras with her club to assist in a medical clinic. At Hunter, she plans to improve the social atmosphere and make it a "cool place to go to school".

It’s easy to accept one’s anonymity in an institution as large as Hunter; but Peter is not the type of man to accept such things. As a tuition-paying student, one should have a say in all matters that affect oneself. He runs with Hunter United because he believes in a united Hunter; a place where the issues that affect students are the issues that matter, and the voices of the student body are both heard and answered. Hunter students should not feel intimidated and marginalized by the faculty, and Hunter United will be the true outlet for the masses.

Tahira Pierre-Cadet, a freshman, has dedicated much of her time and love volunteering in inner-city schools and orphanages. As a result she has a acquired an open-mindedness which has benefited her in listening, understanding and being better able to help people. She is a firm believer in one’s social responsibility to promote unity and love within their community, and plans to do so in her remaining years at Hunter College. She has an innate sense of good judgment and will do all that is in her ability to protect the welfare and dignity of the Hunter Community.

Lou Mergler is currently a full-time freshman at Hunter College. Like many of his peers at Hunter, he also works part-time outside of school. With a focus in political science and writing, Louis hopes to exercise his skills in the political scene. As Senator, he plans to secure funding for those activities that will make the experience of so many needy Hunter students more enjoyable. In addition, he hopes to secure free transportation for Hunter students between Hunter's 68th street and Brookdale campuses.

Curtis Laraque graduated from the Bronx High School of Science in June 2007, and is currently a freshman in the Macaulay Honors College. He plans to major in Computer Science, with a possible double major in Mathematics. Though his time at Hunter has been short, he has made sure to involve himself in many aspects of Hunter life, either personally or through others. Volunteering for USG during this semester, Curtis has seen all of the opportunities we as students have to make changes throughout the school, and how much the Undergraduate Student Government cares for the students of Hunter.

She looks forward to an eventful year as she has great expectations towards increasing the value of a Hunter education and, more importantly, a Hunter experience.

Before transferring, Victoria sought participation in student government but, unfortunately, did not have the time. Now, she is excited to be able to participate fully. Victoria will utilize her experiences as a Senator, which has allowed her to observe the Hunter and is extremely pleased with all that she has learned. She desires to remain involved with USG throughout her remaining time at Hunter and hopes to be successful at making sure that students believe that their Hunter experiences are enjoyable, both academically and socially.

As the Founder and President of the Roosevelt Institution at Hunter College, and an officer in the United Nations Student Association and Student Political Science Association, Joe has been an active leader in the campus community. Christopher Eng is currently a junior majoring in English Literature and Human Rights Studies. This year, he served as a College Association Member, where he played an integral role in the review of student activity fee expenditures, along with the revision of policies regulating such expenditures. As a Junior Senator, Christopher will continue to negotiate with the administration for the proper representation of ethnic studies programs at Hunter and to work with the efforts of having academic departments post all course syllabi electronically before the start of each term.

Sohail Mathur is currently a USG Senator. Over the past year he has devoted his time and committed himself to Hunter students. He has assisted his fellow government officers in USG events throughout the year and has worked on a student-mentoring program, known as the "Freshmen Friendlies" program. His goal is to create a mentoring service for incoming freshmen. Svetlana Azova is a junior in the Macaulay Honors College majoring in English, while pursuing the Pre-medicine track. In recent years, she has interned with two non-profits concerned with the plight of underserved young children and has actively participated in organizing the annual National & Global Youth Service Day. As a Senator, Svetlana will ensure that Hunter’s diverse student body has access to all the multifaceted services that Hunter has to offer, with a particular emphasis on tutoring and advising programs. It’s her goal to facilitate each student’s transition into the Hunter community and to foster a sense of belonging.

Michelle Alexandria Payne is a senior who majors in English and Theater with a minor in Dance. Having been a student of CUNY for several years, she has partaken in many programs including Study Abroad to Morocco, Ghana and India. A strong believer in the importance of cross cultural experiences and studies, she plans to create greater awareness about CUNY's opportunities and academic programs. Her leadership experience includes founding and presiding over the Chorus Club at Borough of Manhattan Community College where she received an Associates of Arts in Liberal Arts. As the Office Assistant and Sustainability Officer for the USG and the Environmental Committee Chair of the Brookdale Council, Liz has devoted the past 18 months to greening the campus. Uniting faculty, staff, and students, she has lobbied to get more recycling bins, promote awareness, and host events encouraging environmentalism. As a Senior Senator, she plans to continue to advocate for student concerns and support environmental and sustainable initiatives. As Office Assistant, Liz has had the opportunity to witness many of the concerns and struggles of students, an experience which will provide the backbone of her tenure as a Senator.
